Games are on Thursday night sometime after 5:30PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.
This week we had a chicken and spinach pizza.
++++ START OF SESSION ++++
While most of this session is covered in last week's report due to the Identify spell taking up most of the time, the following report is the one room they had time to explore this week. (Essentially this report is a placeholder but the single battle was fun nonetheless.)
In the next room, they found a Lamia, (which is like a female Centaur but with a lion's body instead of a horse), already ensconced with an illusion as a regular human female to fool the party.
I didn't even check to see if they believed the illusion or not.
As I'm typing this, I'm beginning to think belief or non-belief in the illusion should have been a Player call. Meaning if a Player doesn't even check for an illusion, the illusion succeeds. In other words, secret die rolls behind the GMs desk are a giveaway, because the players think, "What did he roll that die for?", and start prevaricating ex-post facto: "My innate xxxx ability is always on, I should have detected such and such." I'm thinking a Player's power is not a blanket call for omniscience. So unless a player repeatedly states they are doing something over a linear sequence of events, it doesn't happen. It negates standing orders and forces Players to think.
What do you dear reader, think of that?
In any case they got into a conversation with the "lady". Which prompted a saving throw on Elefus' part, as she tried to Charm him with an innate power.
She failed.
The Players, forewarned by the Elefus' die roll decided to attack, one of the Players firing a crossbow.
The Lamia, casting aside her illusion, or rather automatically as the quarrel whizzed by, used another innate ability and created six other mirror images of herself all in a row against the far wall. In hindsight, was a bad tactic.
Next, Tanzen cast a Magic Missile, automatically hitting one of the mirror images, making one of them disappear.
Elefus cast a Blade Barrier also against the far wall. Wouldn't you know it? The Blade Barrier aligned perfectly with the Lamia and all remaining mirror images. The Ginzu blades of the barrier also made the mirror images disappear, except for the real Lamia, who felt like she was put in a blender.
Regarding the bad tactic, I should have staggered the mirror images throughout the room instead of putting them in a line.
The Lamia, having some remaining hit points (and making her threshhold of pain check), opted for one more innate spell-like power of Suggestion. "Suggesting" to Elefus to turn the Blade Barrier off.
She failed again.
This meant the Blade Barrier spell continued, turning her into a pink gooey mess, matted with cat hair.
